During 2020-2022 I was part of the concept artist team on Space Invaders : Hidden Heroes at Onoma Studio (former Square Enix Montreal). During that period, I was able to design a lot of characters.
The game was using augmented reality technology on mobile devices. The idea was to scan objects of daily life (cup, banana, headphones etc.) and capture the creature that would come out of it. Each creature would refer to the object scanned. They would be part of different families related to the object (spoon, plate, fork = cooking family). To name a few families; Heat, Cold, Shoes, Tech, Cooking, Learning, Plants, Fruits and Vegetables etc.
I was mainly doing character designs, I was able to provide the turnaround view for the models, the expression sheets and the overall intentions for the design. After the final version was approved, the 3D modeler would be able to start working on the character, then the animator.
During those 2 years, working also on complementary 2D assets or working other concept art needs for the game, I created more than 150 characters. It was really fun!
